How It Works:
- GearPlayer and Your Email - GearPlayer works with your
Email service by having the digital audio files transferred
to your PC by Email. Using Drag-n-Drop you can move
the digital audio file directly into GearPlayer and
you are ready to transcribe. Files from most any digital
source can be sent to you using the convenience of Email.
New in GearPlayer is the ability to use encryption with
your digital audio files using any of the supported
GearTools™ like GearXport. GearPlayer uses a 'key'
file to unencrypt the audio file. This gives the users
of GearTools security for sensitive work without the
involvement of a third party.
- GearPlayer and Your FTP Site - GearPlayer's Transport
Daemon can be configured to automatically monitor up
to five Internet FTP server directories and transfer
the digital audio files to your PC in the background
while you are typing. When using GearPlayer and GearXport
your files can be encrypted for security. With GearPlayer's
Auto Directory Play function these files can be loaded
for playback with a key press or touch of a button.
When configured the Transport Daemon can automatically
start downloading files when GearPlayer is started.
- GearPlayer and Your Network - GearPlayer works across
your network to open and play digital audio files on
any computer on your LAN or WAN. This includes dictations
created on dedicated dictation computers files from
a source like the GearDictate, even files that have
been recorded with most any portable digital recorder
and uploaded to a computer on your network. It gives
you the power to turn your existing network into a complete
dictation/transcription solution.
Compatible File Format:
GearPlayer will decode and play any file format that has an installed
Windows CODEC and informational header. So what does this mean to
the average user? It will play files with WAV, MP3, or WMA headers
attached to it. It will even play and decode some files that do
not. GearPlayer will check any file that is loaded to see
if it can play the file. If it is possible for GearPlayer to play,
it will give you the file length in the information window. If not,
it will tell you it is an invalid file format. GearPlayer can not
play proprietary formats that do not have any type of headers or
file information. An example of a proprietary format is a straight
PCM data file without a WAV header.
Below is a list of file formats supported under a standard
